US$81 million Pumped into Local Economy
AHFH reports more than US$81 million in contracts was spent with local businesses during the second quarter FY2008, which represents 100 percent of executed contracts during this period.
Since Army Hawaii Family Housing took over Army housing in 2004, contracts valued at nearly US$670 million have been executed with local businesses. This amounts to 98 percent of the company’s business.
“Sustaining the local economy has been a priority of Actus Lend Lease and our Army partner,” said AHFH Project Director Claire Ridding-Johnston. “Our ability to maintain our existing communities and stay ahead of the new home construction schedule can be attributed to the local businesses we work with. They are just as committed as the AHFH partnership to improve the quality of life for Soldiers and their Families.”
Providing opportunities to small businesses is also a priority, and 62 percent of all contracts were awarded to them. Small businesses include veteran-owned, service disabled veteran-owned, HUB zone, disadvantaged and women-owned businesses.
