As the Fort Drum community continues to adjust to the growth within the Army, plans for additional homes have been advanced. |
As the Fort Drum community continues to adjust to the addition of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team and growth within the Army, plans for the construction and management of additional new single-family and duplex-styled homes on Fort Drum have been advanced to defense oversight agencies and North Country community partners.
The current proposal enlists designer/developer Actus Lend Lease (Actus) and Fort Drum Mountain Community Homes (FDMCH), the Army's privatization partners at Fort Drum, to construct and manage an additional 554 ENERGY STARŪ certified homes on post for Soldiers and Families living at Fort Drum.
The Office of the Secretary of Defense and Army officials are reviewing the development plan designed to ease the projected housing deficit.
Fort Drum Mountain Community Homes is currently building 845 new homes, four community centers and conducting renovations of 2,272 existing homes. The original FDMCH development plan was amended in 2007 with the addition of The Timbers, a 192 one and two bedroom, suite-styled apartment community for unaccompanied Senior Enlisted Soldiers and Officers, scheduled for occupancy in 2009.
The new homes proposed are divided between the Indian River School District and the Carthage Central School District. The Army and Actus are working with the local school districts on this anticipated growth.
"Fort Drum Mountain Community Homes is proud to work with the FDRLO and other local development groups on this additional construction. We are committed to providing a quality product to Soldiers, following exemplary business practices and illustrating what it means to be a good neighbor to all the North Country," said Joseph McLaughlin, FDMCH Project Director.
